Sprint Details Mobile Broadband Changes Rolling Out in November

By Humberto Saabedra on October 21, 2011

Sprint logoSprint has taken to updating its dedicated support site to detail its forthcoming changes to its mobile broadband add-on plans and mobile hotspot changes. These changes were previously confirmed in internal employee documentation, but today’s update goes into further detail regarding changes to 3G/4G service per month, broken down with a chart found at the continue reading link.

Starting with the 3GB add-on in November, 3G and 4G access will be pooled together in the same monthly allowance while unlimited 4G access will be done away with completely. A new $.05/MB overage rate will also be put into place for every MB over the initial monthly allotment, whether it be 3, 5 or 10GB of data access per month. Data roaming rates for mobile broadband will remain the same. These new changes mean that 3G/4G tablets are now subject to the same changes as smartphones were placed under at the beginning of the month.

While these changes will affect all mobile hotspot access and mobile broadband cards, Sprint customers have also raised concerns about data speeds following the launch of the iPhone 4 and 4S, as data performance has significantly degraded since then. Reports have surfaced of data speeds on EVDO Rev. A not exceeding 50kbps and instability with data speeds leading to poor performance with applications and services such as YouTube, mirroring issues with Virgin Mobile following the introduction of the Beyond Talk plans.
